Homemade and Healthy Orange Creamsicles

As much as I love Autumn, I don’t entirely feel like summer has entirely finished. There’s a hole in my heart that summer still hasn’t filled!

So, I’m dragging it out as much as I can. And how have I done that? By making a delicious, fresh, and guilt-free version of a favorite childhood summertime treat that I can feel confident in.

Guilt-free? You bet.

Once I moved in to my new home, many family members and friends wanted to help, so they sometimes bought us groceries. They knew that I liked (well, that’s a bit of an understatement- I would say adore, love, or worship) orange things, especially Orange Creamsicles, so I was given quite a few of those.

And I loved them. I always do. But they tasted different this time. They tasted fake, unfulfilling, and overall they just were disappointing. I felt gross and ill after each one and recognizing my weakness toward delicious orange ice cream treats just made me feel guilty.

So, I made a solution! A guilt-free, fresh, and delicious rendition of a childhood comfort food of mine.

They contain nothing they don’t need, and they are fairly versatile as well. Since this is so fresh and fruity while being sweet and creamy, it makes a perfect follow-up to a decadent and flavorful dinner. Definitely not just for kids.

And to top this all off, all of the ingredients for this one batch cost no more than $6.47 total! (Count on the stubborn college girl to find a way for treats to be cheap!)

Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 4 hours
Total Time 4 hours 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 Oranges (believe me, organic tastes a million times better)
  • One Ripe Avocado
  • 1/2 Ripe Banana (You can make this 1 banana or 1 1/2 bananas if you want more banana flavor. I have found that the banana flavor can easily overwhelm the orange, so use wisely)
  • 1/2 Pint Raw Cream (plain Heavy Cream will work as well)
  • One Tbsp. Raw Honey
  • 1/4 Tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 2-3 drops Orange Essential Oil (where to buy

Equipment

Instructions

  1. Peel and chop the avocado and banana then blend in blender or food processor.
  2. Peel and section the oranges and put them in one at a time, blending inbetween each orange.
  3. Add cream, honey, vanilla, and essential oil. blend one last time until smooth and thick.
  4. Pour mixture into popsicle mold or ice cube tray and cover. If you use an ice cube tray, cover the tray with plastic wrap and then stick toothpicks into each cube through the wrap before placing in freezer.
  5. Take whatever is left and put either in ice cream maker for a creamier and softer ice cream, or just in a covered bowl in the freezer for a harder-serve treat. (Tastes great with chocolate!)
  6. Let freeze overnight and enjoy! 😀
