Identifying Clean Makeup Brands
We could give you a list of every harmful ingredient to look for in skin products, but there are too many to count.
The best way to recognize a genuinely organic makeup product is to see how many ingredients it has; if all the ingredients are plants, oils, and extracts; and, if the information the product gives you is suspicious.
First: Are the Ingredients Plant-Derived?
In general, you will notice that when comparing a regular makeup item’s ingredients with one that is organic, a few things stand out.
Usually, organic makeup brands have significantly fewer ingredients than other brands; you may see only five or six ingredients when regular makeup has at least twenty or more.
It makes you wonder why not all makeup brands are organic now because of how simple the ingredients are compared to numerous chemicals.
With organic makeup, you will also notice that, in the few ingredients it has, there are only items that are either plant extracts or essential oils. None of the ingredients have complex names that you have to search on Google.
There may be one unrecognizable ingredient, which is probably the base of the type of makeup that holds it all together, but the rest of the ingredients should be water, essential oils, or even root extracts.

Most of the time, you will notice straight away if there is a lack of information on a makeup product’s packaging. On the makeup item itself, like a tube of lipstick, it is not as big of a deal because the company is only wanting to make their product look attractive; but on the outer box or packaging is another story.
On the box in which your makeup product came, there should be a label on one side that has all the ingredients listed, as well as where it was made.
If there is not a label, that should be a huge red flag to you since the company clearly does not want it to be easy for the customer to see all the ingredients.
It is not always great to assume stuff like this, but when you look at organic makeup products, they take pride in their ingredients and post it all over the packaging because they want you to see what is in their product.
Small warnings hidden on part of the packaging are suspicious too.
Companies are required to give customers warnings about the effects of any of their products, and it is regulated by the FDA and other organizations, but some companies do not want this to be noticeable, so they make it small and hard to read.
