I’m so excited to introduce my friend and trusted chiropractor, Dr. Brandon Carter. As someone who has helped my health more times than I can count (and that of my family), I’m thrilled that he’s willing to share some of his tips and advice to my readers. You can learn more about Dr. C at the bottom of the post. -Robin
Why chiropractic care? Many people think chiropractors are the just for spinal injuries, but the truth is that chiropractic care is essential to your overall and optimal health. If you are new to the idea of chiropractic, learn the basics behind what chiropractors do and, more importantly, how it can improve your health.
Who discovered chiropractic
In 1895, D.D. Palmer gave the first chiropractic adjustment. It was not for neck or back pain, but for deafness. DD felt a bony misalignment in the spine, and after several adjustments Harvey Lilard’s hearing was restored. DD thought he discovered a cure for deafness, but when others were adjusted, it did not affect the hearing; however, other illnesses were overcome. DD theorized that chiropractic will restore optimal health, which is all of the parts of the body, functioning properly, all of the time.
What is a vertebral subluxation?
In chiropractic, our ultimate goal is to restore your health to it’s full potential, by removing vertebral subluxations from your spine. A vertebral subluxation is, is when one or more of the bones in your spine shift out of their normal alignment.
In order to understand a Vertebral Subluxation in the spine, you must first understand the spine. The spine is composed on average of 24 bones that run from your head down to your tailbone. These bones house the spinal cord, which starts in the brain, runs down the spine, and leaves the spine through nerves that travel to every organ, tissue and cell in the body.
The purpose of your spinal cord and nerves is to carry the life-sustaining messages from the brain down your spine, out to every muscle, vital organ, gland, tissue and cell in your body. Every function and every part of our body is controlled, directed, and regulated by the messages from the brain that these nerves carry out.
How do you know if you have a subluxation?
Most often, a person has no idea that they have a subluxation in their spine. In fact, subluxations are usually in the spine for years, until one day, you have pushed it to the limit, and you get symptoms. You may have pain, tingling or numbness, but more than likely you have…nothing!
It’s like a cavity in a tooth. It slowly starts, you don’t know you have one, and, after a period of time, you get a tooth ache.
But what a lot of people don’ realize is that a subluxation blocks the messages that are coming from the brain and they cannot reach the vital organs and tissues in your body.
So when that happens, that part of the body that the pinched nerve feeds into is not able to function properly, at 100%, at its optimum level. Now the messages that the organs depend upon to function at their optimum level are being pinched or blocked off due to that subluxation or mis-alignment of the spine. This can cause even greater health problems than we even realize!
Chiropractic is more than just spine health. It’s critical to your overall health.
Forget the pain, tingling and numbness—what about your overall health? Are your heart, lungs, stomach, muscles and energy cells functioning at 100%? If not, then more than likely you have a subluxation.
